So everyone’s on this Courageous bandwagon, resolutioning themselves up the ying yang. Clap.clap.clap. I watched it and thought it was meh. Guess you have to be a guy because Honey loved it. Before you think he has a resolution hanging on our wall at home, think again. He’s not the type. He doesn’t need to make public statements he can’t pull off in private. I mean, the movie was great (for him), but he was already living it out. I have my own resolution, because the original movie version was just too vague for me, plus I like to mess with stuff like that. My resolution is a lot less ambiguous because I don’t like the mental acrobatics of trying to decipher what organized religion means when it uses the word “will”. “Um, do you mean “will” as in “will try” or “will” as in “will, when I feel like it. Promise” or “will” as in “what.ever”?
My Resolution
For my spouse: I do. You do. Now, let’s be grown ups and do. Oh, and you’re my love even when I get all grumpy and PMSy, so I will speak to you kindly and as though you are a human being, remembering always that I have the power to make you feel like a man or a quivering demasculated man-boy.
For my kids: When you are tired, when you are sick, when you are lonely, when you think you have failed, even when you don’t like me, I’ll still be your mommy and I will love you through it. This means I will do things like clean up your vomit in the middle of the night, on the only night I get to rest, even if I have to wake up early for work the next day. I will do your homework with you even when I get home late from work hungry, exhausted and worn out even when all I want to do is rest. I will cheer for you, cry for you and help you think through your decisions for your life, remembering that you are ultimately responsible for your life.
For my God: I will not make a mockery of your love by professing to believe in you, but acting like I don’t. I’m so often unworthy of your love; my faith so small and lacking in power, so I will trust you even when every bone in my human body tells me not to, cause sometimes I give myself the worse advice. Most of all, I will not lose faith in you, even when you choose to prune the heck out of me like you have time and time again. Amen.
“The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today
Is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips
Then walk out the door and deny him by their lifestyle.
That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.” – DC Talk
